How to use this template

  1. Spin as it is for any letter from A to Z.
  2. Delete the awkward letters — Q, X and Z make most word games stall — by removing those lines from the list.
  3. Turn on “Remove the winner after each spin” so a game works through the alphabet without repeats.
  4. Press F for full screen when the wheel is at the front of a room.
  5. Save the edited wheel so your letter set survives to the next game.

What people use it for

  • Categories and Scattergories-style games, where the letter starts every answer.
  • Spelling and phonics rounds in a classroom.
  • Naming a team, a pet or a character starting from a letter nobody chose.
  • Writing prompts, where the letter fixes the first word.
  • Alphabet games on a long journey.

Frequently asked questions

Are vowels as likely as consonants?

On this wheel, yes — every letter is one equal slice. That is not the same as English letter frequency, so if you want realistic distribution, use weights to make the common letters heavier.

Can I get a letter without the wheel?

The random letter generator does the same draw without slices, and can produce several letters at once with or without repeats.

How do I avoid the same letter twice in a game?

Switch on “Remove the winner after each spin”. Each letter leaves the wheel as it is drawn, so a game never revisits one until you reload the wheel.

Can I add letters from another alphabet?

Yes. Entries are plain text, so accented letters and non-Latin alphabets work as long as your browser has a font for them.
