Wheel of Colors

Twelve colours, one pointer. Spin when the choice of colour is the game — or when picking it yourself would only mean picking your favourite again.

How to use this template

  1. Spin as it is for a colour from the standard twelve.
  2. Cut the list down to the colours you actually have — the paints on the table, the shirts in the kit bag — and the odds adjust themselves.
  3. Add your own shades by name, one per line, if “Blue” is not specific enough for what you are doing.
  4. Turn on “Remove the winner after each spin” when you are handing colours out and each one can only go to one person.

What people use it for

  • An art prompt: spin twice and use only those two colours.
  • Splitting a class or a party into colour teams without anyone choosing.
  • Choosing a colour scheme to start a design from, when staring at the palette is not working.
  • Deciding which colour piece each player gets in a board game.
  • A colour-recognition game with younger children, spinning and naming what comes up.

Frequently asked questions

Do the slice colours match the colour names?

The rainbow theme paints the slices in spectrum order, so they line up closely for the main colours. You can set any slice to an exact colour yourself under “Weights, colours and on/off” if you need the wheel to be literal.

How do I get a hex code rather than a colour name?

The random colour generator is the tool for that — it gives you a hex code, an RGB triplet and a swatch you can copy straight into a design file.

Can I use this to assign teams by colour?

Yes, and turn “Remove the winner after each spin” on so no two teams get the same colour. For splitting people rather than colours, the team generator does the whole division in one step.
